Heart Of It All: Streetwear Fashion Show Recap

Heart Of It All, an organization that recently put on its Streetwear Fashion Show of 2016. O-Style had the opportunity to help collaborate with this event. Here is our recap of the evening's sights.

Japanese Inspiration

My recent trip to Japan has left me nothing short of inspired. Somehow, the Japanese population always seems to capture fashion trends before they boom in the US; from culottes to Stan Smiths, Japan had done it first. While the country is known for eccentric styles and mixing tradition and innovation, I left with another overall impression: Japan's shoe game is STRONG. Here are some snapshots so you don't have to travel to the other side of the world to get some inspiration:

Met Gala Beauty

The Met Gala is fashion's Super Bowl, and the 2016 event was no exception. This year's theme, "manus x machina: fashion in an age of technology," inspired pastels, metallics, and even a glowing dress (too. cool.).

Despite the fashion's grandeur, several beauty looks shined on the red carpet. Stars kept it fresh with pared-down looks that balanced the evening's dress.

Festival Accessories for the Summer

Festival Accessories for the Summer

It's finally that time of year and no I'm not talking about Christmas, it's FEST season, which means it is time to break out your favorite hippy floral headbands and lacy crop tops. Lets take a look at the hottest accessories this year that are sure to make you look the part.

This year is all about the muted 70's and boho chic vibe.

Kiminos Everywhere

They are the perfect piece for festivals when it's a little chilly in the morning and need something to cover your arms but tiny enough to fit inside of your trendy fringe handbag during the day. Another perk is that they instantly make you appear put together, even if you don't know what a kimono even is. Just throw it on with a pair of jean shorts and you are good to go.

Top 5 Places To Travel For Summer 2016 And What To Wear

1. Disneyland

Anaheim, CA

Didn't all our favorite Disney character tell us we never had to grow up? So off to Neverland we go. Just kidding it's only Disneyland but close enough. Grab those jean shorts and mickey mouse ears from out of the closet because it's summer time! The original Levi high waisted jean shorts are still a must have summer staple for your wardrobe this summer.

Why The Most Recent Chanel Show Is So Important

Something to drool over.
An art form completely of its own.
The root of all inspiration.

This is what Couture is to me. Chanel checks off all three of these characteristics and brings their own rebelliousness to the game as well. With all of the recent, newly-innovated fashion runway still-life "presentations", thanks to Kanye love yah boi, Chanel decided to bring runway back to its roots and not concoct up a grand supermarket theme or airport themed runway show. No, they said. Instead, the Couture house decided to evoke the true passion that comes from this industry, that is the textiles, and create a minimalist theme for the aesthetic of the runway. Karl is forcing us to focus on the beauty that is the clothing, and we must, in a time of such innovation, not forget how this whole fashion runway thing once began. Now let your eyes feast and your spirit become ignited on our favorite runways looks from the show seen below.

The Comeback Kicks: Adidas Superstars

These throwback sneakers are back and we couldn’t be happier about it. With the rise of althleisure and popularity of styling tennis shoes fashionably, its no surprise these kicks have made a major comeback. Adidas superstars first made an appearance in the 70s, then again in the 90s, and now they are the shoe of the season. These effortless old-school kicks make any outfit instantly more cool. From casual wear to formal wear, they can do no wrong. The stylish sneakers come in many colors and are gender neautral so everyone can find their fit. Adidas superstars are available right now so get your own pair and kill the shoe game.

Festival Wear Essentials

Festival Wear Essentials

Coachella, Firefly, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza are a few of the music festivals one may find themselves spending their entire paycheck on this summer, and it's completely worth it! But lets be real.... we may be paying for the music, but the first thing that comes to mind is what we are going to wear. When I showed up to Lollapalooza in the summer of 2014 I was eyeing every trendy, purple haired, ripped jean short wearing festival-goer. Most of those fashionista's stayed in the back, vibin' to the jams, as I was in the front collecting all of the mud on top of my white converse. So what does one wear to these festivals to stand out as a total stunna? Well, LF recently came to OSU and showed me how to do it right.

It's a (Beach) Riot!

Push the Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikinis Aside

Beach Riot's 2016 Summer collection demonstrates the versatility of fashion to a tee. Now, more than ever, beachwear is not defined by a cookie cutter imitation of Grandma's favorite floral drapes. (Sorry, Grandma) This summer is the summer to experiment with patterns, styles, and textures. Soak up the sun while the world soaks in you, the ocean blue, and
all things just as great.

The Elle, as portrayed in black to the upper right, is diving into the spotlight. The best part about this supportive top is that it creates a worry free aura. If you're an aspiring beach volleyball goddess, do yourself a favor and invest in this style. Athletes, I promise, it will be love.

But sometimes wading in the water is what June's all about.

So if you're feeling bold, plunge into plunge. The Poppy as seen in white to the upper left demands to be noticed. The thick lacing crisscrosses with no apologies.

Spring Update: H&M

With a solid 60-degree week in the books and Daylight Savings behind us, it's safe to say that warmer weather is here to stay. If your wardrobe feels like it needs a spring update, look no further than H&M.

This look incorporates trends like suede, white denim, and low-heeled mules without being too overt. The best part? The entire look is under $140 - try mixing the pieces with what you already own for a complete wardrobe refresh.

A Brand To Love: Kit and Ace

I'm here to say that love at first sight is real (or at least a really, really big crush). The brand is called Kit and Ace, and here's why you'll love them.

NYFW Fall 16

It's been almost two weeks since New York Fashion Week has formally ended, but that doesn't mean we're feeling any less from the aftermath. This year's fashion week wasn't the most groundbreaking or exciting in terms of collections and presentations - most of the shows, while meticulously crafted and executed true to each designer's aesthetic, fell flat into the ringer of modest expectancy. What this upcoming fall season did present was a bevy of ways to pique interest in audiences beyond the inner industry circles and fashion aficionados. From celebrity collections and appearances to systematic changes to an industry long stagnant in its ways, here are the highlights from what could only be described as a season of stars and change.

Yeezy Season 3

Yeezus recently took Madison Square Garden by storm with the presentation of his third apparel collection and the debut of his new album, The Life of Pablo.

The energy inside MSG on Thursday, February 11, was indescribable. As West entered the event he was greeted by applause and he hugged friends and family who had come to support him. Kanye began his presentation, which was yet again directed by the iconic, Venessa Beecroft, by playing "Ultra Light Beams." The two stages were topped with models sporting clothing from the collection while 1,200 extras surrounded them.
